Recognition Dinner 2015

Friday, April 24, 2015, was energy filled. Over 80 volunteers, learners, and their guests gathered to celebrate their successes for the past year. The theme of the evening? Awesome Changes. The awesome changes we are all making in our lives as we deepen and broaden our literacy skills.

Four learners delivered two-minute speeches reflecting how they've changed as their literacy skills have grown. Julie told us how her ipad has helped her memorize math facts. Already a strong decoder, Ray shared ways he's building his comprehension skills. Trevor explained how his passion is leading to his career choice. Karen revealed the joy she is feeling as reading and math become easier. Another Karen (a volunteer) finished off the short speeches with her own in which she described the center as "a very human enterprise" in which "We all teach" and "We all learn."

We also thank the individuals who pulled this evening together. Debbie was instrumental in calling, confirming, and coordinating the food donations! Danielle oversaw the decorators, food service, servers, and clean up crews throughout the evening! Tom emceed and kept the evening moving.
