Volunteer – Lower your Cardiovascular Risk Markers

According to author Dr. Hannah Schreier, volunteering is a win-win opportunity. Her analysis of five studies indicated that volunteers may be “less likely to die over a period of four to seven years than similar people who didn’t volunteer” (Parade, October 13, 2013, page 9). Why? Apparently, “helping others may lower some well-known cardiovascular risk markers” (Parade, October 13, 2013, page 10). (To read more, go to Melinda Wenner Moyer’s article Three Months to Healthy.)

What does this really mean? Who knows. The point? You may have a more interesting life when you volunteer – a life that gives satisfaction to others; a life that gives satisfaction to you.
So, make Literacy Action Center the benefactor of your philanthropy.

Our next volunteer training is Saturdays, November 9 & 23, 2013.

To register, go to Volunteer/Tutor Training Registration form. See Volunteer Opportunities for ways to help reduce adult illiteracy in Salt Lake and Davis Counties, Utah. See Literacy Tutor Description for specific information about tutoring adults.
